Cannot Update Converted Lead

The CANNOT_UPDATE_CONVERTED_LEAD error occurs when Revenue.io attempts to update a Lead record that has already been converted to a Contact, Account, and/or Opportunity in Salesforce. This is a system limitation in Salesforce; once a Lead is converted, the original Lead record becomes read-only and cannot be modified.

Common Causes

This error typically occurs in the following scenarios:

  • The Lead is converted during an active Revenue.io call
  • An automation or workflow rule triggers Lead conversion while data is being processed
  • A user manually converts the Lead before Revenue.io has completed its post-call updates
  • There's a timing conflict between Revenue.io operations and Salesforce Lead conversion processes

Troubleshooting Steps

To determine if this error is affecting your environment:

  1. Check your Revenue.io logs for instances of the CANNOT_UPDATE_CONVERTED_LEAD error
  2. Identify any patterns regarding when these errors occur (specific users, times of day, or automated processes)
  3. Review your Lead conversion workflows or automation rules that might be running concurrently with Revenue.io call operations
  4. Examine your Revenue.io Call logs to see if calls are being completed before the Lead conversion timestamp

Resolution Strategies

As a Salesforce Administrator, you can implement these solutions to resolve or prevent this error:

Adjust Lead Conversion Timing

The primary solution is to ensure that any automation or user updates that convert the Lead take place after the Revenue.io call has finished and logged to Salesforce. This can be accomplished by:

  • Modifying workflow rules or Process Builder flows to add a time-based delay before Lead conversion
  • Training users to wait until call completion before submitting manual Lead conversion or triggering conversion automations
